The Journal Gazette announced today that moving a riverboat casino to Northeast Indiana won’t happen in the near future…
INDIANAPOLIS – Riverboat gambling won’t be coming to northeast Indiana anytime soon.
The Senate Appropriations Committee amended Senate Bill 135 Thursday morning to remove language moving a riverboat from Gary to Steuben County.
Instead, the amended bill would have authorized November 2008 referendums in Steuben County and the city of Fort Wayne on whether the communities would permit riverboat gaming in the future.
Probably a good thing for us here. The issue was problematic for several reasons, not the least of which was its potential to further divide our community.
That being said, I hope city planners and developers will continue to appreciate the potential for a Regional Destination Attraction on the south side of Fort Wayne.
