I’m pleased to add the Bring Megabus to Fort Wayne blog to our blogroll. Jodi is a local citizen trying to drum up support for this low fare bus service to and from the Summit City to and from a variety of midwest cities.
MegaBus routes currently include…
Here’s a sample of some low-cost express rates to-from Chicago from Indianapolis:
To Chicago (Saturday Morning, Jan 26)…
| 9:45 AM Depart Indianapolis, 200 E. Washington St Arrive Chicago, Union Station 12:00 PM |
1 seat = $9.00- 15.00 |
Return to Indianapolis (Sunday afternoon, Jan 27)…
| 6:00 PM Depart Chicago, Union Station Arrive Indianapolis, 200 E. Washington St 10:15 PM |
1 seat = $15.00 |
A roundtrip ticket for $24-30. Not bad! Rates during the week appear to be even lower. The company’s website boasts some rates are as low as $1.00 (plus a $0.50 reservation fee).
I fondly remember taking Amtrak’s Broadway Limited and Capitol Limited from Fort Wayne’s Baker’s Street Station to Chicago during my college years. If memory serves, the rate was only $47.00 round trip over 20 years ago. Those were the days!
Highspeed rail service may be only a dream at this point. Perhaps a low-fare express bus service warrants consideration for the time being. For more information, check out Jodi’s blog.

The Journal had an interesting piece about Amtrak’s Waterloo station this morning. I’m still disappointed Fort Wayne lost the service to our northern neighbor.
Although the Baker Street terminal suffered under many years of neglect, the “nostalgia” remained, providing a glimpse of what was in days gone by. The Waterloo platform can’t hold a candle to the former grandeur of this gateway to the Summit City.
Martin Riley Mock should be commended for renovating this Fort Wayne landmark.
