As many of you know, I’m a BIG fan of the waterpark idea for the OmniSource property. I believe such an attraction would provide year-round entertainment for tourists and residents. However, it must be the right attraction done in the right way. “Just another waterpark” won’t cut the mustard. It has to be big. It [...]

A Gem of a Site…

I just discovered a well designed site by Stephen Parker over at AroundFortWayne.com. Stephen has beautifully captured just about every historical attraction in Fort Wayne, and more. He has profiled quite a few area attractions I never knew existed.
So much of the North River area has been photographed by him including Science Central, Lawton Park, [...]
Wells Street Pedestrian Bridge

The Wells Street Pedestrian Bridge sits at the end of what I envision Phase II, the Shopping Boardwalk. This former vehicle/train trestle across the St. Mary’s has been beautifully restored, yet seems underutilized. I happened to be there today and didn’t see another soul during my brief visit.
The bridge offers some amazing views of downtown [...]
The Flood Issue

Charlotte’s recent comment about the flood issue is important to any discussion about riverfront development. I’ve created this post so it may be discussed at length.
While the Omni Source property has been removed from the flood plain by the engineers’ levee projects, Lawton Park, the skateboard park, and the area surrounding Science Central remain subject [...]

“Let the River Run”
I love this line:
We the great and smallStand on a starAnd blaze a trail of desirethrough the darkling dawn
FYI – “darkling” means “vaguely threatening or menacing.” How poetic.
Okay, so the hair is “so ’80’s” and Carly has big teeth – inspires me nonetheless.
Seven Point Plan for Success

In my opinion, any successful development project for the North River area will include the following:
It must integrate well with existing neighborhoods and features. We need to build upon the community’s existing strengths. Continuity within the project itself and the surrounding area is key.
It must offer something for everyone. Every age group must be [...]
My Vision for a "New" Fort Wayne
Posted in north river, omni source on June 21, 2007 | 4 Comments »
Welcome to my vision for development of the North Side of Downtown Fort Wayne. I ask you to imagine the year is 2014, and the City of Fort Wayne is marketing this area to potential tourists.
Here’s the link: http://www.gamacdonald.com/fortwayne
This site is a work in progress and created to share ideas on the city’s potential [...]
